Abstract [en]

The concept "the literature myth" is introduced in order to scrutinize, through illustrative contemporary examples, the wide spread belief in the inherent value and positive effects of reading literature. Examples are taken both from the educational system and from other arenas. New arguments are needed in order to forcefully defend reading in a "post-literary" culture.
