This chapter discusses the effects of Russia's engagement with international democracy discourses on the prospects of Western hegemony. It focuses on one particular research puzzle that follows from this expansion of the concept of democracy. The chapter focuses each of the five models of international democracy, and examines Russia's interpretations of each of them. Recent decades have produced reams of literature seeking to examine the influence of international structures on the state of democracy within states. In any case, the issues of democracy are persistent in international relations (IR) discourse, despite the multiple uncertainties they entail. In the postcolonial discourse democratization is associated with reaching a more inclusive type of relations between hegemonic powers and weaker states, with more equitable possibilities for the later group to make their voices heard worldwide. As for the multitude, it represents a neo-Marxist perspective on global democracy.
