Abstract [en]

With the help of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique, this research paper explores multiple works written by Shirley Jackson, with a main focus on We Have Always Lived in the Castle. This paper attempts to analyse how Jackson portrays the suffocation of the feminine during the 1940s-1960s through the usage of Gothic themes as a way of describing the mental suffering of the many housewives of her time.
