The Italian emigration during and after the 2008 economic crises has increased significally. Between 2007 and 2016, the outflow rate increased with more than 300 percent. This paper concentrates on the Italian immigration toward Sweden during this time period and by using semi- structured interviews, the study investigates the reasons of why the Italians left their country, why they chose Sweden and how they felt about their life in the new country. The results show that the factors of poor quality of life, lack of security and future prospects as well as a curiosity for the Swedish culture and system and better working possibilities were stated by the respondents as the most common reasons. The overall experiences of life in Sweden were described by using the key words of simplicity, security and calm.
