Abstract [en]

In this thesis I am going to critically explore the (im)possibilities of diversity related work within the current “Diversity Management” paradigm by connecting this reigning model to broader societal and political formations represented by the prominence of neoliberal values. The aim is to explore how two large corporate entities, along with an administrative governmental authority, represent their perspectives on, and visions for diversity work. By further exploring how these entities understand values such as equality, discrimination, human rights and migration I hope to understand the possibilities for inclusive and democratic diversity work. By employing Carol Bacchi’s WPR-method to texts published online the goal is to find what the above mentioned actors represent as prerequisites or “problems” standing in the way of a diverse, as well as democratic, fair and all around favorable society. By connecting these representations to a critical, theoretical understanding of neoliberalism, I attempt to show that the underlying values diverge significantly from what I understand as competing discourses of diversity, justice, rights and equality.
