Allt fler barn i Sverige lider av psykisk ohälsa och siffrorna fortsätter att öka. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka och belysa skolkuratorers upplevelser av psykisk ohälsa bland barn. Syftet fokuserade på könsskillnader och sociala faktorer kring barnet. Studien grundades i en kvalitativ metod med fem semistrukturerade intervjuer med skolkuratorer i södra Skåne. Intervjuerna analyserades sedan mot utvecklingsekologin, kommunikationsteorin och socialkonstruktivismen. Slutsatserna från forskningen är att sociala faktorer har ett stort inflytande i huruvida barnen utvecklar en psykisk ohälsa eller inte. Det är även viktigt för återhämtningen för de barn som lider av psykisk ohälsa. En annan slutsats är att pojkar och flickor uttrycker psykisk ohälsa olika, där pojkar är mer benägna att bli fysiska medan flickor tar till gråten. Baserat på att barnen uttrycker psykisk ohälsa på olika sätt ser därmed samtalsprocessen också olika ut. Pojkar behöver där mer konkret handledning samtidigt som deras mående bearbetas, medan flickor behöver mer samtal.

Increasing numbers of children are suffering from mental illness in Sweden, and the numbers continues to rise. The aim of this essay was to examine and illuminate schoolcounsellors experiences of mental health among children. The aim focused on gender differences and social factors in the childs surroundings. The essay was based on a qualitative method with five semi structured interviews with schoolcounsellors in southern parts of Skåne. The interviews were analysed with the Ecological theory, communication theory and social constructionism. The findings from the essay is that social factors have a major influence in whether children develop mental illness or not. It is also important for the recovering of the children who suffers from mental illness. Another finding indicates that girls and boys express mental illnesses in different ways, where boys are more prone to being physical whilst girls cry. Based on that the children express mental illness in different ways, the counsel process also differs. Boys need more concrete coaching, while their mental health is addressed, while girls on the other hand, need more support in the counselling process.
