It sucks to be unemployed! - A qualitative study of young people with foreign background and their experiences of unemployment The aim of this study was to investigate the thoughts and experiences of unemployment of young people with foreign backgrounds. The study is a qualitative research in which eight young people between 18-25 years old was included. The main point is to study the young people's own experiences of unemployment. The study will put the young people as individuals in focus. The previous research includes studies of experiences and consequences of unemployment, such as mental illness. Aspects of ethnic discrimination will also be addressed. The method that I used was qualitative semistructured interviews. Based on the collected material, Erving Goffmans theory about stigmatization has been used as a theory, as help to understand and explain the experiences that the interviewees showed, and to answer the aim of this study. The resultats of this essay showed that the unemployed youths, are experienced their situation as unemployed as exclusively negative. All of the participated described further how unemployment led to experiences of economic and social exclusion in a society where work constitutes the norm. In addition, the results also showed that the young people felt opposed to disadvantaged structures in society.
