Abstract [en]
The advancement of artificial intelligence is an ongoing process, with various nations competing to create the most sophisticated systems and reach technological leadership. The European Union is first with taking a pioneering step enacting an artificial intelligence legislation prioritising the Union's fundamental norms. In 2021, the European Commission introduced the EU AI Act to uphold the European Union norms and attain technological leadership.
This thesis delves into the phenomenon of artificial intelligence, utilising Ian Manners' conceptualisation of "Normative Power Europe" and analysing it through Niemann and de Wekker's (2010) three-dimensional framework of normative intent, normative process, and normative impact. Furthermore, this thesis aims to investigate the scope of normative power norms within the European Union's AI Act, utilising a qualitative content analysis to evaluate the legislation.
