Articulations of Threat and Discursive Legitimization: A Discourse Analysis of the Recognition of Security Threat of Iran
Malmö universitet, Fakulteten för kultur och samhälle (KS), Institutionen för globala politiska studier (GPS).
2021 (engelsk)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 14 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

The thesis scrutinises the discursive ways in which the Trump government recognises the Islamic Republic of Iran as a security threat. The thesis executes these accurately by turning to good use of archived Trump White House Website press releases of Trump on the Iranian policy. I portray that the constructive representations of Iran as a threat to security in the American political discourses is long-established, not minding that the government of Trump’s recognition of the security threat regarding the Iran nuclear deal, extremely has distinct overtone and auspiciously constructive results and accentuation. I argue that Trump’s government recognition of security threat is tailored to the United States-Iran security tactics, however, the manifestation of nuclear proliferation and the mode of representation of threat to the stability of the region give shape to the vibrancy of the rhetorical articulations. At the same time, based around the idea of securitisation theory and the post-structuralist discourse, I sum up that the Trump government security policy concerning Iran is a carry on of an afore deep-seated American perspective on Iranian image, although utilised exceptional strategies and precautions that occasionally in contravention with the standard of the comity of nations and its predecessors.
