Stroke är en av vår tids stora folksjukdomar och medför i regel en plötslig och omskakande förändring både för patienten själv samt för närstående. Rehabiliteringen efter en stroke innebär återuppbyggnad och anpassning av fysiska, sociala samt emotionella aspekter av individens liv. Sjuksköterskans förmåga att motivera patienten är grundläggande för optimering av stroke-patientens rehabiliteringsmöjligheter. Syftet med föreliggande studie var att kartlägga strokepatientens motivationsfaktorer till rehabilitering samt undersöka hur sjuksköterskan använder sig av motivation i omvårdnads- och rehabiliterings-arbetet. För att undersöka ämnet utfördes en litteraturstudie baserad på kvalitativa forskningsrapporter. Ur artiklarna identifierades information och stöd, hemkomst och självständighet samt optimism och målsättning som viktiga motivations-faktorer bland strokepatienter. Resultatet påvisade en konflikt gällande stroke-patientens och sjuksköterskans uppfattning av rehabilitering. Sjuksköterskans motivations- och rehabiliteringsarbete belyses ur artiklarna och en svårighet att urskilja sjuksköterskans insatser gällande motivation och rehabilitering från resten av vårdpersonalens åtgärder identifierades. Slutsatsen drogs att omvårdnads- och rehabiliteringsarbetet måste baseras på ett öppet samarbete mellan sjuksköterskan och patienten samt grunda sig i patientens individuella behov vilket kan uppnås genom en tydligare kommunikation och en aktiv involvering av patienten.

Stroke is one of the most common diseases of our time and usually results in a sudden and shocking change both for the patient and those close to him. Rehabilitation from stroke involves reconstructing and adaptation to physical, social and emotional aspects of the individuals’ life. The nurses’ ability to motivate the patient is fundamental for optimising the stroke patients’ possibility to rehabilitate. The aim of this study was to identify the stroke patients’ factors of motivation for rehabilitation and to study how the nurse uses motivation in nursing and rehabilitation. To investigate the subject a literature review was conducted based on qualitative research. Information and support, homecoming and independency along with optimism and goal setting were identified as important factors of motivation among the stroke patients. The result showed a conflict concerning the stroke patients’ and the nurses’ understanding of rehabilitation. The nurses’ work related to motivation and rehabilitation is illustrated from the articles and a difficulty to distinguish the nurses’ efforts from the rest of the staffs’ concerning motivation and rehabilitation was identified. The conclusion was that nursing and rehabilitation must be based on a mutual under-standing between the nurse and the patient. It should be grounded in the patients’ individual needs, which may be achieved by a clearer communication and an active involvement of the patient.
