För denna litteraturstudie har genom olika informationssökningsmetoder relevanta studier valts ut som behandlar kvinnors funktion inom islamistiska terrororganisationer och skillnaderna mellan kvinnor och män i dessa. Resultaten visar att kvinnor har flera viktiga funktioner inom de islamistiska terrororganisationerna, synliga såväl som dolda. Resultaten är dock tvetydiga gällande kvinnornas betydelse och vikt för terrororganisationerna. Det råder dock ingen tvekan om att de strategiska fördelarna med att använda kvinnor är många för terrororganisationerna. Detta är en anledning till varför medvetenheten kring kvinnornas medverkan i terrororganisationerna bör öka hos både allmänheten och de beslutsfattare som utformar kontraterroristiska strategier.

For this study, through various information retrieval methods relevant studies was selected that treats the function of within the Islamist terrorist organizations aswell as the differences between women and men in these. The results show that women have several important functions within the Islamist terror organizations, visible as well as hidden. However, the results are ambiguous regarding the role of women and the importance of women within the terrorist organizations. There is however no doubt that the strategic benefits of using women are many of the terrorist organizations. This is one reason why the awareness of women's involvement in terror organizations should increase among both the public and the decision makers who design counter-terrorist strategies.
