I sjuksköterskans kompetensbeskrivning ingår att utifrån gällande föreskrifter och säkerhetsrutiner kunna hantera medicinsk-tekniska produkter samt att arbeta utifrån hygieniska principer och rutiner. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka sjuksköterskornas följsamhet gentemot de riktlinjer som finns publicerade i Handbok för hälso- och sjukvård gällande sticksituationer. Datainsamlingen gjordes på en kirurgisk avdelning på ett sjukhus i södra Sverige genom 14 strukturerade observationer av sjuksköterskor i situationer då de antingen satte perifer venkateter (PVK) eller genomförde venprovtagning. Datan analyerades med manifest innehållsanalys och hade en kvantitativ del i form av frekvensdata och en kvalitativ del i form av fältanteckningar. Studiens resultat varierar mellan de olika subkategorierna i checklistan. Positiva fynd har hittats gällande enhandsteknik som användes korrekt i åtta av elva fall, medan handdesinfektion både innan och efter moment samt identitetskontroll var punkter där resultatet tyder på brister i följsamhet.

The Swedish competence description for nurses includes handling medical-technical products, and to be able to work on the basis of approved guidelines, hygiene principles and safety routines. The aim of the study was to inquire into what extent the nurses are following the guidelines published in the Swedish Handbook for healthcare. Data was collected at a surgical clinic in a hospital in the south of Sweden through 14 structured observations in situations where nurses inserted peripheral venous catheters or took venous blood tests. The data was analysed with content analysis had both a quantitative and a qualitative approach with fieldnotes to support the results. The results varied between the different headlines in the checklist that was used. The study came across positive findings under the headline “one hand technique” which was used correctly in eight of eleven situations. Less positive was the findings under the headlines “hand disinfection” and “identity controls” where the results indicate obvious lack of compliance.
