Malmö University, Faculty of Culture and Society (KS), School of Arts and Communication (K3).
2022 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 14 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Minimalism as a term has multiple meanings. It has an aesthetic sense, but it is also referring to an entire lifestyle, and this minimalism as a lifestyle is on the rise. There are many different aspects to minimalism as a lifestyle, but decluttering and its mental benefits seems to be a large part of it. Decluttering is the process of actively reducing one's personal possessions to achieve mental clarity or happiness. This study is looking into the language use when talking about decluttering; a physical and a non-physical side is revealed. Additionally, an overarching metaphor is identified – this idea that less is better.
