Abstract [en]

In this scientific review a norm critical perspective of nutrition education in Swedish high school is taken. Scientific literature is discussed compared to the literature used in physical education (Idrott och hälsa 1) and from The national food agency’s recommendations (Livsmedelsverket). Information deducted from the latter two sources have a very normative view of nutrition, which is to eat a diet that is rich in variety; to eat everything in moderation. The scientific findings point to a diet rich in variety can have negative health consequences; some recommended foods have an inflammatory effect, can increase the risk of cancer, diabetes and can have other negative health impacts. The conclusion from this paper is that the education about nutrition in Swedish high school is normative; this can therefore exclude a wider understanding of nutrition and different ways to eat in relation to diverse dietary and fitness goals.
