Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The Board of Education at Malmoe Faculty of Odontology makes sure regulations according to the Higher Education Ordinance, are followed and implemented pedagogically in the education through course objectives. Course objectives in oral medicine and oral pathology aim to enable the student to acquire knowledge of etiology, diagnostics, pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis for common oral mucosal lesions, as well as for unusual mucosal lesions. Purpose: The overall aim of this study was to investigate how confident last year dental students of 2017, perceived themselves when diagnosing and treating oral mucosal lesions. Method: The method consisted of a web-based survey sent out to final year dental students at Malmoe University. The participants were asked to diagnose and treat three different patient cases with oral mucosal lesions and to self asses how they perceived their competence with the use of an Ordinal Scale. Result: Nine last year dental students answered the questionnaire. The following diagnosis were chosen by most students for the three different cases; oral lichen planus, leukoplakia and pyogenic granuloma. Conclusion: The self-perceived confidence among students, was set between moderate and high when managing each of the three patient cases.
