Projektbeskrivning

The overall goal of the project is to create a module/course on the PhD/master level focusing on ageing and dementia including the lifelong, life-wide education of elderly people, as well as for professional and informal carers.

The Baltic Sea region is an area of significant discrepancies. Access to dementia care and treatment of the same varies due to different welfare logics. Consequently, this project focuses on improving and promoting dementia care in the Baltic Sea region including social and professional aspects of ensuring sustainable and healthy societies.

It also fosters macroregional cooperation in health and making it more integrated and inclusive by providing common reference points. Health and social professionals of all levels who provide care for people with dementia in care homes and hospital settings are often facing challenging situations and ethical dilemmas. Digital technology has the potential to support people with dementia.

How this kind of technology can be used and understood in relation to relatives and dementia care in different welfare logics is a key issue to make the technology support daily care. In the project, empirically-based research is created in the meeting between academia and the field of practice. Long-term goals include the contribution of a) a deeper professional understanding of an ageing society and dementia-related challenges and b) creating a common understanding, socially, practically and culturally in knowledge acquisition regarding differences and similarities in the context of welfare logics and dementia care.

The project contains four intellectual outputs: Integrated care, A Study handbook, A cross-border method in collaboration and social innovation supportive to the Course module: Ageing societies and Dementia care. The module for PhD/master students uses a problem-based approach that emphasizes learning by doing. This approach enables students to build cognitive and metacognitive skills for acquiring, analyzing, and applying knowledge.

Further, how interdisciplinary competencies can contribute to professional development in ageing societies is a part of the module. In higher education, two of the main objectives are intercultural exchange and an international perspective on learning.

The project builds both on previous and ongoing projects in Sweden and abroad, and, on a strong collaboration with relevant stakeholders who have been involved in the conceptual and preparation phase of the study design. The cross-border collaboration departs from the CareSam network. Previous research within the network is represented through the partners involved. Based on previously described collaboration and previously finalized projects focusing on knowledge acquisition in Ageing and dementia care.

Within the frame of the CareSam network, the EU-partner collaboration was a logical way to proceed out of previous results and outputs. In addition to the partners involved in the project, five associates are involved, one from each home country is represented also forming the reference group. The results will remain available and visible as an integrated part of the home institutions of the partners. This will be done through open-source channels. Each activity in the project supports the creation and development of the Ageing societies and Dementia care – Course module.

Collaborators: Lapplands University, PL Klaipeda University, Roskilde University, University College Syd, University College Absalon, University of Lapland, University of Lower Silesia, Simrishamn Municipality.

Som komplekse og sammenvævede problemstillinger kan aldring og aldrendesamfund udforskes fra utalligevinkler – både teoretisk og empirisk. Samtidig kalder udfordringer forbundet med aldrende samfund på øgetforskning, ikke mindst for også atsynliggøre, hvilke ressourcer ældremennesker bidrager med i dagenssamfund. At favne kompleksitetenvar en ambition i udviklingen af etph.d.-kursus indenfor aldringsfeltet med fokus på humanistiske og samfundsvidenskabelige tilgange.De studerendes tilbagemeldinger fra kurset pegede på, at mangfoldighed i nationale og videnskabelige baggrunde, i kombination med en rækkeutraditionelle læringsaktiviteter, bidrog til de studerendes engagement, erfaringsudveksling og udvikling afegne forskningsprojekter.
